Box Score Lynchburg, Va. – Lipscomb Baseball fell 4-1 to Liberty Friday night in Lynchburg. Despite outhitting the Flames 7-6, Lipscomb was unable to get its offense going to overcome the deficit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Even though
Tiger Borom knocked a leadoff single in the first at-bat of the game, Lipscomb's offense struggled for the timely hits to drive runs across the plate.
Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third and increased the lead by another run in the bottom of the fifth after taking advantage of a Bisons error.
Lipscomb dug in and got a run back in the top of the sixth.
Brian Moore singled and scored on a wild pitch to put himself in scoring position.
Robbie Merced delivered at the plate with a single down the left field line to get Lipscomb back within a run, 2-1 after the sixth.
The Flames tacked on a couple of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double to increase its lead 4-1.
The Bisons were unable to overcome the deficit and fell in the series opener.
HERD NOTES
Max Habegger earned his sixth start on the bump and had an impressive outing.
Even though he suffered the loss, he allowed only one earned run, struck out two and walked one in his six innings of work.
Haddon Adams was the only Bison to record multiple hits with two singles.
