Men's Basketball's Brandon Hartwell: Where Are They Now?

Brandon Hartwell was a member of the Lipscomb men's basketball team and earned ASUN All-Academic Team honors for 2004-2005. He spent some time this week recalling his days on the court and on campus for Lipscombsports.com.

What years did you compete for Lipscomb, and who coached you?

I played from 2004-2006. Coach Shaun Centers, Coach Jay Walton, Coach Scott Sanderson, Coach Hubie Smith.

What teammates were most memorable?

I cherish to this day the relationships I developed with my teammates during my time at Lipscomb. I consider them all family. We lived together, ate together and competed alongside one another every single day. Not many humans are so lucky to develop this kind of connection and community with their peers. The best memories with my fam are the spells of uncontrollable laughter, competitive pick-up games in the summer, Panama City spring breaks and all the time in-between.

What degree have you earned, from where, and when?

B.S. Lipscomb, 2006

Why did you attend Lipscomb?

I attended due to being recruited to play basketball. I remember my visit and getting to play pick-up with the team. James Poindexter specifically was giving me everything he had, making me earn every trip up the court. I love that about James. At that time, I have to admit, my sole focus was playing basketball at a high level, and that is why I ultimately decided to come to Lipscomb.

What is your favorite athletic memory at Lipscomb?

Playing my first game for Lipscomb at the University of Minnesota's historic fieldhouse. I worked my entire life up to that point to be a part that moment.

Who influenced your athletic career at Lipscomb?

My teammates. Those guys challenged me competitively and provided unwavering support, pushing me to reach for my potential.

What do you remember about Lipscomb campus life during your time here?

Swinging in the courtyard with my future wife, Brittany.

What is the most valuable lesson you learned in your time at Lipscomb?

Life is more whole shared with a close community of friends and family.

Who were your favorite professors and why?

I enjoyed my classes with Dr. Laura Williams. I believe she was a great teacher because of her ability to relate to her students and her focus on better understanding them. I also remember her having a positive attitude, upbeat, day in and day out.

Where did you grow up?

Columbus, Indiana.

Where do you live, and what do you do now? Tell us about your family:

I live with my wife, Brittany (Lipscomb graduate and track star), our 2-month-old baby boy, Sage Huxley, and our cat Tigrita in Nashville. Lately, we have been spending all our time getting to know our little guy and sleep when we are able!

We love to go on neighborhood walks in the evenings as the sun is going down, listen to a good three-hour podcast, hike the side of a mountain or lay back on a beach somewhere.

Brittany and I have worked together since she graduated in 2007. We owned and operated Subway restaurants for four years right after graduating and switched gears into fashion in 2011. Brittany had a vision for a customer centered fashion experience, and we founded Molly Green. We have been working away at developing the brand to meet its potential ever since.
