Bisons Open Season with 2-1 Win over UCLA

Final Score:  Lipscomb: 2, UCLA: 1
Location: Los Angeles, Calif.
Records: Lipscomb 1-0, UCLA 0-1

The Short Story: An early Lipscomb goal and thrilling late winner propelled Lipscomb to a 2-1 season-opening victory over UCLA Thursday night.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Lipscomb took an early 1-0 lead when Burl Shepherd slotted a ball inside the right post.
  • UCLA leveled in the 33' minute which would hold through the first half.
  • Hayes Wood scored the go-ahead goal in the 83' minute.
  • The Bisons' defense held through the remainder of the match to secure the victory.
  • Lipscomb handed UCLA its first season-opening loss in nine years.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lipscomb came out of the gate firing on all cylinders. In the 4' minute Tyrese Spicer weaved through a host of defenders and fired a shot that was saved. Shepherd was there to knock the rebound past the keeper giving Lipscomb a 1-0 lead.
  • After falling behind, the Bruins dominated possession and found the equalizer in the 33' minute after a bout of possession in Lipscomb's defensive third.
  • Once again, the Bisons came out on the front foot to start the second frame. Hayes Wood continued to assert his dominance in front of goal and rocketed a shot in the 51' minute, forcing the first save of the half.
  • After a back-and-forth second half, Wood found his first goal of the season when he slotted a ball inside the far post just in front of goal.
