Volleyball falls to St. John's, 3-1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Lipscomb volleyball dropped a neutral site decision to St. John's Friday night, falling 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 22-25, 14-25) at Diddle Arena across the state line in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Bisons drop to 2-7 on the season with the Johnnies improve to 9-4.
 
Kamryn Bacus paced Lipscomb with 14 kills on .132 hitting and added a career high three blocks. Sophomore Caroline Stogner had her best match as a Bison with a season high nine kills and a .538 hitting clip on 13 attacks. Meg Mersman added eight kills and hit .350 while matching Bacus with three blocks.

Delaney Dilfer just missed her first double-double of the season with 37 assists and nine digs. Logan Gish (10) and Delaney Smith (10) each had double-figure dig nights.

The Bisons hit .214 as a team to St. John's .372. The Red Storm collected 11.0 blocks to the Bisons 8.0.
 
SET 1
In the opening set, the Bisons came out hitting .355 – and held St. John's to .179 -- aided by seven kills from Bacus, who hit a blistering .636 with no errors. Tied at 10, the Bisons got a kill from Mersman and a block from Bacus and Kat Lowry to spark a 9-4 run. Bacus and Gish combined for the final four kills to help the Bisons to a 25-21 set one win.
 
SET 2
St. John's flipped the switch in the second set, hitting .500 as a team with just one error while limiting the Bisons to .281. The Johnnies worked past an 11-11 tie, using an ace, a Bison service error and five combined kills from Rachele Rastelli and Giorgia Walther to go up by six. The Red Storm ended the set on a 4-1 run to finish off the frame 25-17.
 
SET 3
Lipscomb and St. John's seesawed back and forth for most of the first half of the frame until a 4-0 run from the Bisons put them on top 18-15 after four straight kills from Mersman and Stogner. With the purple and gold leading 20-18, St. John's put together a 4-0 run to regain the lead. Dilfer served up one of her four aces to even the score at 22, but the Johnnies won the next three points to win 25-22. St. John's outhit Lipscomb .464 to .214 in the frame. In total there were 14 tied and six lead changes.
 
SET 4
St. John's broke open a 2-2 score and slowly extended its lead to 9-5, forcing a Bison timeout. A 5-0 run pushed Lipscomb's deficit to nine before the Red Storm worked its way to a 25-14 set win. The Bisons were tagged with eight attack errors and got outhit .417 to -.038.
