Byrne Brace Leads Lipscomb Past Tigers

THE SHORT STORY:  Lipscomb stayed undefeated on the season behind a brace from Killian Byrne to seal a 2-1 victory over Memphis. 
 
QUICK FACTS:
  • Byrne netted his first goal of the night in the 44' minute, shortly after being subbed on. 
  • Lipscomb's goal tally doubled in the 78' minute when Byrne found the back of the net for his second goal of the night, a career high. 
  • Memphis put the pressure on in the 84' minute with a late strike to cut the Bisons' lead 2-1. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

In the 23' minute, Hayes Wood nearly netted the opening goal of the match with a rocket on the end of a set piece that forced a Memphis save. 
 
The Bisons continued to pressure the Tigers' goal with shots from Louis Robinson in the 26' minute and a shot from Noah Gulden in the 41' minute. 
 
The Bisons finally broke through in the 44' minute when Byrne volleyed a pass from Hayes Wood inside the far post for a 1-0 lead. 
 
Memphis started to gain more possession in the second half, but keeper Michael Sibley was up to the task with a big save in the 59' minute to keep the Bisons in the lead. 
 
Byrne notched his second of the match in the 78' minute when he slotted a right-footed shot past the keeper for a 2-0 lead. 
 
Memphis put pressure on the Bisons with an 84' minute goal off a set piece. 

The Bisons were able to defend for the final minute of the match to preserve its third-consecutive win.  

NOTABLE:
  • Lipscomb out-shot Memphis 20-12 and directed eight shots on frame.
  • The Bisons forced the Tigers' keeper to make six saves on the night. 
  • Bakary Bagayoko and Tyrese Spicer both recorded four shots on the night.

Lipscomb will be back in action on Monday, Sep. 6 for a match at Evansville. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
