THE SHORT STORY: Lipscomb battled back from a one-goal deficit early in the match to ultimately defeat Evansville 4-1 behind a Tyrese Spicer hat trick.

QUICK FACTS:
  • The Purple Aces took an early lead in the 16' minute on a penalty kick goal.
  • Spicer scored his second goal of the year in the 41' minute to level the score 1-1 heading into halftime.
  • The go-ahead goal was scored by Spicer in the 48' minute for a 2-1 lead.
  • Luca Naumann got on the scoresheet in the 64' minute with his first goal of the season on a free kick to put the Bisons up 3-1.
  • The final strike came in the 72' minute when Spicer finished his third goal of the night for his first career hat trick.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Evansville notched the first goal of the match early on, in the 16' minute, after a scramble in the box resulted in a called handball. Pable Guillen converted the kick from the spot to give the Purple Aces a 1-0 lead.

After controlling the match for most of the first half, Lipscomb finally broke through in the 41' minute when Spicer found the equalizer. After his original shot was blocked by the defense, Carlo Cavalar collected the ball and passed it back to the feet of Spicer who slotted a right-footed shot inside the near post to send the match into the halftime break 1-1.

The Bisons took control of the match in the second half, setting the tone with a 48' minute go-ahead goal. Killian Byrne linked up with Bakary Bagayoko in the midfield who delivered a beautiful cross to Spicer who was waiting at the far post and punched the ball in for a 2-1 lead.

Lipscomb continued to pour it on in the 64' minute when Naumann beautifully struck a free kick that curled inside the near post and beat the keeper for a 3-1 lead.

The final tally of the night came in the 72' minute when Spicer finished off his first career hat trick. Great midfield work from Louis Robinson and Seth Highfield set Spicer up again at the back post. His left-footed shot clanged off the far post and into the back of the net to cap off the 4-1 Lipscomb victory.

NOTABLE:
  • The Bisons outshot the Purple Aces 22-9.
  • Michael Sibley made two saves on the night.
  • The 4-0 start to the season is the best start in program history.
THOUGHTS FROM THE BENCH:
Tyrese Spicer on scoring hat trick
"I had to come out there and impact the game and I had to bring something to the table and that's what I went out there and did. Unfortunately, I could've gone out there and put in five, but I got the three so I'm thankful for it."

Killian Byrne on hot start to season
"We are getting better every day and we can only go up from here."
