Bisons Fall to Jacksonville State Despite Peete's Career Night

Final Score:  Lipscomb: 70, Jacksonville State: 80
Location:  Jacksonville, Ala. (Pete Matthews Collesium)
Records:  Lipscomb: 5-9, 0-1 ASUN, Jacksonville State: 12-3, 3-0 ASUN

THE SHORT STORY: Despite a career-high 23-point performance from freshman Jordan Peete, Lipscomb feel 80-70 to Jacksonville State after a costly third quarter to open ASUN play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Even though the Bisons had not played a game in 13 days, Lipscomb looked sharp from the first whistle with an explosive first quarter.

Jordan Peete was on fire through the first frame with 10-points, including two triples to lead all players through the first 10 minutes.

Lipscomb, who shot 60% from the floor in the first quarter, closed out the first quarter with a deep three from Sydney Shelton for a 21-15 lead.

Shelton opened the second quarter with another basket, but Jacksonville State began to chip away at the Bisons' lead. The Gamecocks used a 13-5 run to retake a 28-26 lead with just over three minutes left in the half.

The squads traded buckets through the final minutes of the first half as Lipscomb trailed by the slimmest of margins, 31-30, heading into the locker room at halftime.

Lipscomb's hot hand continued to its opening possession when Blythe Pearson drained a triple to give the Bisons the 33-31 lead for the 10th lead change of the game.

The Bisons cooled down as a team through the third quarter, but Peete continued her career-performance with a three-point heave at the end of the shot clock to best her previous career high with her 19th points of the evening.

The Gamecocks caught fire in the final minutes of the third frame, making 10 of its last 12 baskets to stretch out a 60-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Lipscomb matched Jacksonville's 20 points in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit from the third quarter as the Bisons eventually fell 80-70 in its first ASUN game of the season.

HERD NOTES:
  • Peete ended the night with 23-points, besting her previous career high of 17-points earlier this season.
  • Pearson and Shelton also scored in double-digits with 10 and 11 points, respectively.
  • The Bisons shot 45% from the field and 30% from range while Jacksonville State shot 43% from the field and 42% from three.
  • Casey Collier lead the squad with 8 rebounds.
