THE SHORT STORY: A solid four quarter performance for Lipscomb led the Bisons to a 65-54 victory over Bellarmine for its first ASUN victory of the season.
Jordan Peete led the Bisons for the second-consecutive game with a team-high 15 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF: Lipscomb: 35, Bellarmine: 32
- The squads traded punches throughout the opening minutes of the game with both squads shooting high percentages.
- Bellarmine caught fire towards the end of the first quarter and went on a 12-2 run to close out the first 10 minutes for a 19-14 lead at the end of the first frame.
- The Knights shot 83.3% from behind the arc in the first quarter, making 5-of-6 of its three-pointers.
- Bella Vinson capped off a 7-0 run in the middle of the second quarter that got Lipscomb back within a point, 21-22.
- A couple of made free-throws by Nicole Hemphill put Lipscomb back ahead and the Bisons outscored the Knights in the final 3:35 minutes for a 35-32 lead heading into the halftime break.
SECOND HALF: Lipscomb: 30, Bellarmine: 22
- Casey Collier started the second half scoring with a three pointer to expand Lipscomb's advantage 38-32.
- The Knights used a 7-0 run to retake a 39-38 lead before Jalyn Holcomb broke the Knights' hot streak with a three-pointer.
- Jordan Peete scored five quick points for the Bisons in the next two possessions to force a Bellarmine timeout trailing 47-42.
- At the end of the third quarter, Lipscomb held a 50-44 lead.
- With eight minutes left in the game, Vinson drained her third three-pointer of the night for a 53-45 lead, Lipscomb's largest of the game.
- The Bisons pulled away late for a 65-54 victory, improving to 1-1 in ASUN play.
HERD NOTES:
- The victory marked the Bisons' eighth-straight home ASUN victory, dating back to last season.
- Visons scored a career-high 14 points, besting her previous career-high 12 points at BYU.
- Collier scored 10 points for her fifth double-digit performance of the year.
- Lipscomb shot 43% from the floor and held Bellarmine to just 34%.
- The Bisons outrebounded the Knights 40-28.
