Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bisons drop third straight despite Pruitt's career high

NASHVILLE - The Bisons just can't find their rhythm.

Lipscomb men's basketball dropped its third straight game Saturday after the Bellarmine Knights came into Allen Arena and walked away with a 77-71 victory over the purple and gold.

After starting the season 5-2, the Bisons have lost six of their last nine games, including three-straight to ASUN Conference opponents despite leading by double-digits at some point in the contest.

Lipscomb jumped out 4-2 to start the game before the Knights (9-8, 3-0 ASUN) hit three triples and used a 14-4 run to go up on the Bisons by eight at the 13:30 mark.

Following a timeout, it was the home team's turn to mount a run. The Bisons got five quick points from Tommy Murr, three-consecutive 3-pointers and buckets from seven different players to spark a 23-5 run over the next nine minutes to grab their largest lead of the night at 31-21 with 4:33 to play in the half.

Lipscomb used that spurt to go into the break, up 37-34 after shooting 59.1 percent on 13-of-22 field goals.

Bellarmine was able to keep the things a one-possession game after converting seven Lipscomb turnovers into 13 points, while the Bisons got just four off three BU miscues.  Will Pruitt and KJ Johnson led the team at the half with nine points.

If the first 2:30 of the second half was to be any foreshadowing of what was to come, the Bisons didn't help their cause. Over the first 10 minutes of the period, the purple and gold missed 11 of their first 13 shot attempts while the Knights hit four triples and turned a three-point halftime deficit into a 57-42 lead over the Bisons.

BU's Dylan Penn was too much for Lipscomb in the second half as he took over and led the charge on his way to 15 second-half points.

Still down 10 points with two minutes to play, Pruitt did his best to keep the Bisons in the game. The Mount Juliet native was 5-for-5 in the stretch and scored the final 12 points, including a three-pointer that pulled Lipscomb within four with 14 seconds to play. The Knights hit a pair of free throws to seal it a few seconds later.
