Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bisons skid extends to four at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. – Long-range shooting proved to be the difference as the Lipscomb men's basketball team fell 86-72 to Eastern Kentucky Tuesday night at the McBrayer Arena.

The Colonels (9-10, 1-4 ASUN) made 16-of-37 shots from beyond the three-point line, which included nine triples in the second half. It is the fifth straight game the purple and gold have allowed its opponent to hit 10+ threes and the 11th time this season.

The Bisons (8-12, 1-4 ASUN) trailed 41-37 at the intermission and EKU stretched its advantage out to as many as 18 at the 3:49 mark of the second half.

Down, but not out, Lipscomb tried to stage a comeback midway through the period, but it was not enough as a three from Michael Moreno with 13:14 remaining put the Colonels up by double digits for the remainder of the game.

The Bisons were able to cut it to 10 on a Parker Hazen layup at 9:20, but another three-pointer on the other end of the floor stretched EKU's lead back out and Lipscomb was never able to recover.

Will Pruitt led the Bisons in scoring for the second-straight game, pouring in 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including three long balls. Freshman Trae Benham got hot and finished with a career high 16 points on 6-of-11 field goals. The Concord, North Carolina native led the team with four 3-pointers (4-7) in just 18 minutes.

Hazen also reached double figures and just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

HERD NOTES
  • Pruitt also grabbed six boards and matched his career high with three 3-pointers.
  • Hazen led the Bisons in rebounding for the fifth time this season.
  • Ahsan Asadullah was held in check as the big man finished just 3-of-6 shooting for six points, five rebounds and five assists.
  • Quincy Clark provided Lipscomb a spark off the bench. The freshman scored six points, all in the first half, snatched two boards and tied his career high with four dimes.
  • Starters KJ Johnson and Greg Jones combined for just three points, all from the former. The duo went just 1-of-7 from the floor, but Jones did haul in a season-high tying five rebounds.
  • Lipscomb shot 43 percent from the field (26-61) and went 9-of-27 from long distance. The Bisons did hit 11-of-15 at the stripe.
  • EKU connected on 31-of-69 field goals (45%) and its 16 triples were the third most in a game this season. That number marks the 2nd-most the Bisons have allowed this season (17 – Belmont).
  • Lipscomb won the battle of the boards 39-37 and grabbed 11 offensive rebounds, its second most of the season.
  • The Bisons turned the ball over 12 times and allowed 21 EKU points off those miscues. Lipscomb scored just six off seven forced turnovers.
