RICHMOND, Ky. – Long-range shooting proved to be the difference as the Lipscomb men's basketball team fell 86-72 to Eastern Kentucky Tuesday night at the McBrayer Arena.
The Colonels (9-10, 1-4 ASUN) made 16-of-37 shots from beyond the three-point line, which included nine triples in the second half. It is the fifth straight game the purple and gold have allowed its opponent to hit 10+ threes and the 11th time this season.
The Bisons (8-12, 1-4 ASUN) trailed 41-37 at the intermission and EKU stretched its advantage out to as many as 18 at the 3:49 mark of the second half.
Down, but not out, Lipscomb tried to stage a comeback midway through the period, but it was not enough as a three from Michael Moreno with 13:14 remaining put the Colonels up by double digits for the remainder of the game.
The Bisons were able to cut it to 10 on a Parker Hazen layup at 9:20, but another three-pointer on the other end of the floor stretched EKU's lead back out and Lipscomb was never able to recover.
Will Pruitt led the Bisons in scoring for the second-straight game, pouring in 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including three long balls. Freshman Trae Benham got hot and finished with a career high 16 points on 6-of-11 field goals. The Concord, North Carolina native led the team with four 3-pointers (4-7) in just 18 minutes.
Hazen also reached double figures and just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
