NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Volleyball improved to 10-10 (7-2, ASUN) with a 3-1 ((20-25, 29-27, 25-20, 25-16) victory over Central Arkansas Friday night in Allen Arena.
Caroline Stogner swung well for the Bisons, finishing the night with a team-high 19 kills, just one off from her career high.
Courtney Jones and
Berkley Mischler also contributed 12 kills each. All told, eight Bisons had kills in the match.
Defensively, Stogner also led the way with a career-high 17 digs.
Delaney Smith and
Connelly Renfrow also notched double-digit digs with 12 and 10, respectively. Mischler finished the night with four blocks while
Addi Pelham and
Meg Mersman both contributed three.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- The teams were evenly matched out of the gate, trading points for the first several minutes of the first set. The first meaningful separation came when Central Arkansas went on a 3-1 run for a 9-6 lead.
- The Sugar Bears kept the two-to-three-point lead for the next few points, but the Bisons pulled back within a point (11-10). Central Arkansas, however, scored the next three points for a 14-10 lead.
- After a media timeout at the 15-12 mark in favor of UCA, Lipscomb won the next two points, shaving the lead back down to one (15-14).
- Central Arkansas went on a 6-2 run for a 23-17 lead and looked to be running away with the set, but Lipscomb called a timeout and won the next three points to cut the lead 23-20.
- The Sugar Bears closed out the final two points of the set after the timeout for a 25-20 set victory.
SET 2
- Lipscomb got some separation early in the second set with a 4-0 run for a 7-3 lead before a Lipscomb service error stopped the run.
- The Sugar Bears punched back with a 5-1 run of its own to cut Lipscomb's lead to a point, but Logan Gish got Lipscomb back on the right side of things with a massive kill for a 9-7 Bisons lead.
- Lipscomb continued to play well as a unit and took a 15-10 lead into the first media timeout of the set.
- The Bisons won the next two points to extend its lead 17-10 and forced a Central Arkansas timeout.
- Lipscomb took a timeout of its own after the Sugar Bears used a 5-2 run to tighten the score to 19-15. Out of the timeout, Central Arkansas continue to shave the Lipscomb lead and eventually tied the set up at 19 all.
- The Central Arkansas run continued, and the Sugar Bears took its first lead of the set since its third point for a 20-19 lead.
- Central Arkansas had set point at 24-23, but Lipscomb defended well and tied it back up at 24.
- After trading the next few points, the Bisons finally got to set point and Gish came up with the kill to end the second set (29-27) and tie the match at a set a piece.
SET 3
- The opening points of set three were evenly matched as the first two-point lead came when UCA took a 12-10 lead, but a Courtney Jones kill quickly got Lipscomb back within a point and Lipscomb tied things right back up 12-12.
- UCA and Lipscomb continued to battle, but the Sugar Bears pulled slightly ahead at 17-15 as Lipscomb took a timeout.
- Lipscomb fought back and took its first two-point lead at 20-18 to build momentum heading into the final points of the set.
- The Bisons went on a 4-1 run to get to set point and Jones finished things off with a kill for a 25-20 set three victory.
SET 4
- Lipscomb took momentum into the fourth set, taking a 5-3 lead, but Central Arkansas fought back and tied things at five.
- The Bisons continued to stay on the front foot and found itself with a 13-10 lead as Central Arkansas called a timeout.
- Lipscomb stayed hot and outscored the Sugar Bears 4-1 over the next five points to take a big 17-11 lead.
- The Bisons ultimately won the fourth set, 25-16 to take the 3-1 victory.
HERD NOTES
- The Bisons out-hit Central Arkansas .302-.191 on the night.
- Lipscomb had nine block and five service aces in the match.
- Mischler hit .455 on the night with 12 kills.
