Volleyball Sweeps North Alabama for 2-0 ASUN Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb Volleyball secured their second conference win of the weekend with a clean sweep over the North Alabama Lions with set scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-14 Saturday night in Nashville.
 
The youngsters stepped up and led the Bisons as freshman setter Sophia Hudepohl recorded her highest assist count in a three-set match this season with 41. Courtney Jones led Lipscomb's offense with 15 kills, closely followed by fellow freshman Berkley Mischler with 11.
 
Mischler had a big night as she added an ace and a trio of block assists for 13.5 points on the match. Caroline Stogner was a persistent presence in the back row for the Bisons as she led the Bisons with 15 digs, just two behind her season high for digs in a match.
 
Delaney Smith and Hudepohl each collected double-digit digs in the match with 12 and 11 respectively. Smith and fifth-year senior Logan Gish each put the pressure on the Lions from the serving line with three aces each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
  • Two squads traded points and remained tied until a Lions' kill and a double by Hudepohl put North Alabama up by three points at 8-5.
  • Kills by Logan Gish, Kailee Bass, and Addi Pelham pulled the Bisons within one at 10-9.
  • Courtney Jones put her foot on the gas in the first with six kills in the Bisons' first 12 points, leading the match in kills even as the Lions had the 15-12 lead.
  • Caroline Stogner buried a kill coming out of Lipscomb's first timeout to spark a 3-0 run for the Bisons to tie it 19-19.
  • A pair of kills from Jones and an ace from libero Delaney Smith put the Bisons up 23-22.
  • Berkley put down her third kill of the night on a joust for set point and the Lions responded with a kill, but Jones put the set to rest with her ninth kill.
  • Lipscomb out-hit the Lions .380 to .345 in the match with 21 kills to North Alabama's 10.
 
SET 2
  • The Bisons went up by four points early in the second frame as a block from Addi Pelham and Kailee Bass, a kill by Jones, and another Smith ace took the Bisons to 7-3.
  • A pair of three-point runs for the Lions brought the score within one and a service error by the Bisons brought the match tied at 12-12.
  • North Alabama took the lead for the lead at 15-14 going into the media timeout, but Addi Pelham brought the Bisons right back in it with a kill and a block with Mischler to retake the 16-15 lead.
  • Lipscomb took a 7-1 run from there to put them up 23-16 and after a kill from the Lions, Mischler and Hudepohl added kills of their own to the scorebook to end the set.
  • Mischler added five kills to her tally this set to push her to 8 kills after the second frame.
 
SET 3
  • Stogner was the first to earn a point for the Bisons in the third frame with an ace that took the Bisons up 3-1.
  • The two squads traded blows until the 5-5 tie that the Bisons broke with a pair of kills, an ace, and a block to go up 9-5.
  • A 3-0 run for the Lions brought it within one but kills from Mishler and Stogner took the Bisons to the lead once again.
  • Pelham put down her seventh of the night and an ace from Hudepohl send the match into the media timeout at 15-11 to the Bisons.
  • Lipscomb kept up the pressure and extended their lead to 22-13 with three kills, a pair of blocks, and an ace.
  •  A pair of Jones kills put the Bisons up to match point and an ace from fifth-year senior Logan Gish sealed the sweep for the Bisons with a set three score of 25-14.
 
HERD NOTES
  • Freshman setter Sophia Hudepohl led the match with 41 assists, her highest assist count in a three-set match this season.
  • Freshman Courtney Jones led the match in kills with 15 kills. She committed just three errors for a .364 hitting percentage.
  • Freshman Berkley Mischler had a big night in the middle with 11 kills, three block assists, and a service ace.
  • Outside Caroline Stogner led the Bisons in digs with 15, her second highest dig count of the season.
  • The Bisons out-swung the Lions with 47 kills to 28 with hitting percentages of .248 and .170 respectively.

The Bisons will travel to Charlotte, N.C. for their next match to face off with conference newcomer Queens (N.C.) on Friday, Oct. 28. First serve will be at 5 p.m. CT.
