Box Score MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's tennis program began their fall campaign over the weekend at the MTSU Invitational over Friday, September 30 to Sunday, October 2. The Bisons put up an impressive showing with seven of their eight players going 2-1 in singles play over the weekend.
In Lipscomb's Friday singles match against Ball State, freshman
Alina Cherniaieva picked up her first win as a Bison in a three-set victory (1-6, 7-6, 10-7). At the top spot,
Sasha Dobranos took her opponent to three sets before ultimately falling (6-2, 2-6, 5-10).
The Bisons took on Bellarmine and a combination of North Alabama and Western Kentucky players in doubles on Friday and emerged with two victories.
Sasha Dobranos and
Anja Trbeznik claimed a 6-4 victory in their match against Bellarmine while
Anait Arutiunian and
Sofiia Paladi earned a 6-4 win of their own against their UNA foes.
Lipscomb's squad started with doubles play on Saturday and two pairings earned victories over Ball State. Dobranos and Trbeznik teamed up for another 6-4 win while
Emma Zakordoniec and
Liza Diachenko partnered up for their first win together this fall (6-4).
The Purple and Gold took on a combination of Bellarmine and Western Kentucky players in singles play Dobranos, Paladi, Arutianian, Trbeznik, and Cherniaieva all earned two-set victories over their opponents. Cherniaieva earned a clean sheet with final scores of 6-0, 6-0.
The final day of the tournament saw the squad take on North Alabama and Western Kentucky players once more in singles play. Five Bisons swept their opponents: Dobranos (6-0, 6-3), Paladi (6-3, 6-4), Arutinunian (6-2, 6-2), Trbeznik (6-1, 6-1), and Zakordoniec (6-0, 7-5).
The Bisons wrapped up the weekend with doubles play against the Chattanooga Mocs where Lipscomb emerged with wins on two of the three courts. The Dobranos/Trbeznik pairing claimed their third win of the weekend (6-4) while
Taisia Yakunina and
Alina Cherniaieva claimed first win together in a 7-5 triumph.
