Volleyball Bounces Back, Bisons Claim 3-1 Win Over Owls

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb volleyball welcomed the Kennesaw State Owls to Allen Arena Saturday night and bounced back from a loss in the first set to claim a 3-1 victory (21-25, 32-30, 25-14, 25-22) to improve to a 13-12 overall record (10-4 in ASUN play).
 
Caroline Stogner, Berkley Mischler, and Logan Gish put up big numbers for the Bisons in the front row. Mischler earned her career high in kills with 15 over the course of the contest including five in the third set.
 
Gish tied her two-time career high in kills for the third time, burying 14 kills and a pair of acees for 16.0 points on the night. Stogner led the match and the squad with 19 kills over four frames, putting her just one behind her career high in kills and marking her sixth match this season putting away 15 or more kills.
 
Sophia Hudepohl guided the Bisons' offense with 53 assists over the course of the contest. She and Stogner each earned a double-double for the night as they scooped up 11 and 12 digs respectively. Delaney Smith defended Lipscomb's back row to the tune of 16 digs in the match, she collected nine of them in the second frame.
 
SET 1
  • Caroline Stogner's 259th kill of the season opened the match Saturday night in Allen Arena.
  • The Bisons' defense stepped in to collect digs all over the floor, logging seven digs by the 15-13 mark in favor of the Owls.
  • Kennesaw State opened a five-point lead at 19-14, but a Mischler kill and an ace from Logan Gish closed the gap to two points.
  • Kills from freshman middle Berkley Mischler dominated the set for Lipscomb's offense, tying Stogner for a team-high with four kills at a team-high .667 clip.
  • Stogner also led Lipscomb's defense with five of the Bisons' 11 digs in the first set.
  • Lipscomb hit at a .195 percentage with 13 kills in the first frame to the Owls' .250 on 13 kills.
   
SET 2
  • Kailee Bass put down a big kill to open the set, setting Lipscomb off to a 5-2 lead with a Stogner kill.
  • Mischler's fifth kill of the match gave the Bisons back the lead after some back-and-forth play, but Kennesaw State challenged the Bisons and kept it tied through to 10-10.
  • The Bisons extended to 14-11 lead on KSU errors, Owls closed it to 14-13 before a Gish tool sent the match to a media timeout.
  • The Owls closed the gap at 19-19 despite kills from Mischler, Bass, and Stogner and their brief 20-19 lead was erased by Addi Pelham's fourth kill of the match.
  • Gish grabbed a trio of kills to keep Kennesaw State from getting a lead late in the frame and put down her seventh of the night to give the Bisons their first set point opportunity.
  • The Bisons were held off on both of their first set point opportunities by kills from the Owls and their third opportunity was closed by a service error.
  • Logan Gish gave the Bisons their fourth set point opportunity with her eighth kill of the night, but the Owls kept it alive with a kill on the outside.
  • Kennesaw State earned their first set point of the night with a kill in the middle, but a pair of kills from Gish and Stogner's 11th kill of the match claimed the second set for Lipscomb.
 
SET 3
  • Pelham put down a sharp cross-court kill to claim the third opening point of the match for the Bisons, Gish's first kill of the set and a pair of kills from Mischler put the Bisons up 5-3.
  • The Purple and Gold put their foot on the gas, earning a 6-1 run to take a 11-5 lead with a kill from Pelham and a pair of back-to-back aces from Stogner.
  •  The Owls tried to chip away on Lipscomb errors but kills from Mischler and Stogner along with an ace for Jade Zaleski pushed the Bisons to an eight-point lead (20-12).
  • Stogner and Bass put down back-to-back kills to give Lipscomb set point and the Bisons claimed set three on an attacking error from the Owls.

SET 4
  • The Owls claimed the first two points of set four before Bass buried her sixth of the contest to put the Bisons on the board.
  • Kennesaw State's offense put together a string of kills for a 7-3 lead before a trio of Stogner kills and a pair of big swings from Pelham brought the Bisons within one (10-9.
  • Mischler tied her career high in kills to cut off a run from the Owls, Gish kept up the momentum with an ace immediately after to bring the gap to one point once more (14-13).
  • A pair of kills from Stogner and a well-timed block from Bass and Pelham closed Kennesaw State's lead to one and an ace from Stogner brought the match tied 18-18.
  • The Owls created a three-point lead, but Gish's 12th kill of the night and a hitting error brought the two squads tied and Mischler's career-high 15th kill gave the Bisons at 22-21 lead.
  • Gish tied her career high in kills to give Lipscomb match point and Mischler put up a wall to claim the match for the Bisons.
 
HERD NOTES
  • Freshman middle Berkley Mischler led the Bisons' offense with a .462 hitting percentage as she put down a career-high 15 kills. She also put down a pair of solo blocks for a total of 17.0 points in the contest.
  • Fifth-year senior Logan Gish tied her career high in kills with 14 on the match. Gish also grabbed a pair of aces for a total of 16.0 points on the night.
  • Outside hitter Caroline Stogner was one kill behind her season-high of 20 as she put down 19 kills at a clip of .349. Stogner was a threat from the serving line as well with three service aces to push her to a match-high 22.0 points.
  • Sophia Hudepohl ran a fluid offense, dishing out 53 assists and recording her 27th service ace of the season in the contest. This marks her sixth match this season with 50+ assists.
  • Defensively, Lipscomb turned up the intensity for a total of 55 digs in the match, their 12th match this season with 50+ digs as a team.
  • Three Bisons recorded double-digit digs as Delaney Smith (16), Caroline Stogner (12), and Sophia Hudepohl (11) each dove across the floor to swipe kills from their opponents.
