THE SHORT STORY
Behind Derrin Boyd's career-high 23 points, Lipscomb Men's Basketball defeated Louisville 75-67 on the road Tuesday night to finish off its non-conference slate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first several minutes of the matchup were disjointed with neither team able to get anything going. Louisville hit the first points of the game with a triple, but Lipscomb responded with back-to-back buckets by Ahsan Asadullah and Boyd for a 4-3 lead.

The Cardinals led 7-4 at the first media timeout, but Lipscomb held them scoreless for the next couple of possessions and retook an 8-7 lead with 13:39 left in the first half.

Lipscomb continued on a long 12-2 run, capped off with a Jacob Ognacevic triple for a 16-9 lead at the 12:23 mark of the first half for the largest Lipscomb lead of the night.

The run continued out of the called Louisville timeout when Asadullah connected with a cutting AJ McGinnis for his fourth points of the night and an 18-9 Lipscomb lead.

Louisville tightened things back up, 25-21, but Ognacevic broke an over two-minute Lipscomb scoring drought with a nice drive to the basket, putting Lipscomb back up by two possessions.

Ognacevic scored the next three Lipscomb buckets as the Bisons climbed out to a 31-23 lead with just under three minutes left in the half.

Louisville however, went on a 9-2 run, cutting the Lipscomb lead to a point with under a minute remaining in the half to force a timeout from head coach Lennie Acuff

Neither squad was able to score in the final 50 seconds and Lipscomb would head into the halftime break with a 33-32 lead over Louisville.

Out of the break, Lipscomb got a good start with an and-one opportunity from Boyd and a triple from Trae Benham for six quick points.

Boyd stayed hot with a transition three and Ognacevic put down an emphatic dunk to quickly jump back out to a 44-36 lead at the 17:18 mark, forcing a Louisville timeout.

Louisville went on a 7-0 run to once again cut the Lipscomb lead to a point, but Boyd stopped the bleeding with a driving layup to get the Bisons back out to a 46-43 advantage with 14:31 to play.

Over the next three minutes, Lipscomb outscored Louisville 5-3 for a 51-46 lead at the under-twelve media timeout.

Lipscomb continued to shoot well as Benham connected from three for a nine-point Lipscomb advantage.

Louisville got back as close as five, but the Bisons made five of its next seven field goals, capped off by a Boyd triple for a double-digit, 63-53 advantage with 7:37 to play in regulation.

Both squads shot well down the stretch and the Cards shaved the Lipscomb lead back down to six points, 71-65, at the final media timeout.

The Bisons held the Cardinals without a point for the final 3:19 and came away with a 75-67 victory in a tough road environment to round out non-conference play.
