THE SHORT STORY

After holding a five-point lead after the first quarter, Lipscomb women's basketball couldn't hold off the Tigers as they fell to Tennessee State 74-64.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers opened in 1-3-1 defense which have given opponents problems all year.

Jalyn Holcomb put the first points on the board for the Bisons as she drained a triple over the Tiger's zone.
The Bisons forced several one-and-done possessions early. Lipscomb didn't allow a point until the 6:44 mark of the first quarter as TSU went 0-of-6 start the contest.

However, TSU began a run of their own, scoring six unanswered to take the lead with 5:40 remaining in the period.

Claira McGowan halted the run with a three pointer and then a block on a TSU layup by Aleah Sorrentino led to a transition score on the other end, creating a four-point swing in Lipscomb's favor.

Later in the period, the Tigers held a 15-14 point lead, but the Bisons closed the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 20-15 advantage into the second quarter.

TSU opened the next quarter scoring six straight points to take the lead back from the Bisons.

Lipscomb struggled to shoot the ball early in the second quarter allowing TSU to regain the lead.

TSU went on another run in the last two minute caused by some rushed shots by the Bisons. The Tigers zone pressure sped up Lipscomb offensively, which allowed TSU to get out to a 35-30 lead with 1:11 remaining in the quarter.

After a Sorrentino layup to cut the lead to three points, TSU answered with a triple from the left corner to extend their lead to 6.

Bella Vinson stops the bleeding, as she drained a deep three at buzzer after a scramble for possession to cut their deficit to just three going into the halftime.

The Tigers outscored the Bisons in the period as they put up in their highest scoring quarter of the game at 23 points.

Each team put up the same amount of shots but the Tigers converted on three more basket and got to the free throw line at a high clip.

Tennessee State stretched their lead to as much as 14 in the third quarter but the Bisons fought back to bring their deficit down to single digits entering the fourth.

TSU opens the final quarter with two straight buckets to stretch their lead to seven forcing a Lipscomb timeout.

The Bisons had been shooting the ball well as of late but weren't as efficient against the Tennessee State.

Some of the inefficiencies were due to the Tigers ramping up the pressure defensively, prevent the Bisons from getting into their offensive sets.

Bisons scored 12-point on 4-of-14 shooting and turned the ball over seven times which allow the Tigers get more possessions and stretch their lead to 56-47 after three quarters.

The squad continued to fight in the fourth quarter but couldn't get the stops they needed down the stretch to mount a comeback, falling to the Tigers on the road 74-64.
