THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Women's Basketball couldn't snap their losing streak to the Bruins despite early lead and fell to Belmont at Allen Arena 77-68.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bisons opened the game clicking offensively, converted on their first six buckets. Lipscomb saw production from several players early with each of the starters getting in on some of the scoring action.
After their early 8-2 lead, Belmont fought back to take their first lead of the contest (14-12) with a layup at the 3:28 mark.
The teams would trade buckets to close out the quarter as Belmont held a slim 18-17 advantage.
Jalyn Holcomb connected on a jumper to tie things up again at 24 a piece with 4:46 remain before halftime.
The momentum would then shift in Belmont favor. After several lead changes for the maturity of the second quarter, the Bruins closed the quarter on a 11-2 run to close the half with a 9-point lead.
Neither team shot the ball efficiently in the quarter due to some tight defense played by both units.
Belmont hit some shot late and got to the free throw line which sparked the run to end the quarter.
After giving up an early three to open the third, Lipscomb stormed back to cut their deficit to four (45-41) on a layup from
Molly Heard, capping a 6-0 scoring run at the 5:17 mark of the third frame.
The Bruins continued to make short runs to extend their lead, but Lipscomb continued to fight and put in timely buckets to keep the score within two or three possessions until the final minutes of the quarter as Belmont put in two layups to take a 9-point lead after three.
Lipscomb clawed their way back in the contest again, cutting the Belmont lead to five with 5:45 left in the final quarter, after two free throws from Holcomb. Unfortunately Belmont continued to convert on their end of the floor.
With roughly two minutes left,
Bella Vinson would raddle in a deep trailing three pointer to keep the Bisons lead at nine followed by a Bisons timeout to set up some defense pressures.
Belmont stretched thier lead to as much as 13. Lipscomb continued to play until the final whistle, forcing back-to-back front court turnovers to cut their lead 9 for a final score of 77-68.
