Women's Golf opens spring season with 3rd-place finish at Lady Bison Classic

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Lipscomb's standout Siarra Stout guided her team to a strong performance as the Bisons placed third overall as a team at the Lady Bison Classic at Bay Pointc on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Bisons started hot on the first day of competition as they posted the best team score in round one (310) and the third best score in round two (304) of the 15-team field. After suspending play on Monday, the teams had to play a few more holes than expected on Tuesday. With nine holes to play, the Bisons had the lead, but a struggle on the back side ultimatley led the team to a 3rd-place finish with a 311 for a team total of 925, nine strokes behind USC Upstate.

Stout finished the classic as the top Bison with rounds of 77-74-78. Her 229 total placed her seventh overall in the 87-person field.

Lauren Thompson tied for 13th after firing a team-best 76 in the final round Tuesday. She closed the event two strokes behind Stout at 231 with scores of 77 and 78 in the first two rounds.

Karly Falanga also earned a top-20 finish, carding a two-day total of 234 (76-78-80).

"What a great week overall for the girls," head coach Jesse Lawley said. "It was awesome to have the entire squad play at our home event in Florida. Obviously, a little disappointed having the lead going in the back nine and not being able to secure the win,  however, it is still an incredible 3rd-place finish.

"We had solid scores from different girls within the top five throughout the three rounds. This means we had different, but great contribution across the board from all five girls. As the coach, it is great to see this kind of good scoring early in the spring without the proper amount of preparation we'd like to see, but it is such a positive heading into our quick turnaround at Jacksonville next Monday.
 
NOTES
  • The Bisons posted their fifth top-5 finish in six tournaments this season. It was their third top-3 as well.
  • Lipscomb finished the classic as the top Par-3 scoring team at +16 overall with an average of 3.27.
  • The team's 152 pars were third most of the field while their 26 birdies were fourth most.
  • Thompson led the field in par-3 scoring individually, finishing even par (3.00). Williams was fourth at +1 (3.08).
  • Stout wrapped up the event fourth in Par-5 scoring after posting a three-under score (4.75).
  • Falanga's 36 pars were third most in the field.
  • Thompson and Stout led the team with seven birdies each this week.
