THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb fell 2-0 in a pitchers' dual to Central Arkansas Friday as it dropped to 0-4 in ASUN play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the first two innings, starting pitcher
Michael Dunkelberger painted the strike zone and retired the Bears in order, but Central Arkansas returned the favor and retired the Lipscomb offense in order as the game was scoreless.
The pitchers dual continued in the third inning, but Central Arkansas took the lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run for a 1-0 lead.
The fourth and fifth innings were more of the same with each pitcher dealing and keeping the offenses quiet.
Central Arkansas added another run in the sixth inning when it loaded the bases.
Matthew Maldonado relieved Dunkelberger on the mound and inherited the bases loaded. An infield RBI single gave the Bears a 2-0 lead, but Maldonado stopped the bleeding there with a pop up and a strikeout to keep the Bisons in striking distance.
After being held off in the seventh and eighth innings, the Bisons had three outs to try and extend the night. With two outs,
Malik Williams reached on an error and
Rudy Maxwell nearly tied things up with a deep fly ball, but it was caught at the fence as the Bears sealed the 2-0 victory.
