THE SHORT STORY
A two-homer afternoon lifted Lipscomb Baseball to a crucial 3-2 victory over Bellarmine Friday afternoon at Knights Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lipscomb wasted little time getting on the board to start the weekend series. Leadoff guy, David Coppedge, swung on the second pitch of the game and hammered a ball over the left field fence for a quick 1-0 lead.

Michael Dunkelberger got the Friday nod for the second-consecutive week and make quick work of the Knights in the bottom of the first. He struck out the first man he faced. A walk gave Bellarmine a base runner, but a double play quickly retired the Knights and kept the 1-0 Lipscomb lead.

The Bisons threatened to break things open when it loaded the bases with one out in the top of the second, but Lipscomb stranded the bases juiced.

Bellarmine took the lead in the bottom of the third when it scored two unearned runs for a 2-1 lead after three innings.

Lipscomb had another good opportunity on the offensive end in the top of the fourth when Caleb Ketchup led off with a single. He stole second and tagged up to third on a fly ball, but he wouldn't get across home plate as Lipscomb still found itself at a one-run deficit after four innings.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Bisons surged back ahead with one swing of the bat in the top of the sixth. After Tiger Borom beat out a throw for a bunt single with one out, Ketchup delivered another home run over the left field wall for a 3-2 Lipscomb lead.

Dunkelberger made quick work of the Knights in the bottom of the sixth, retiring Bellarmine in order. Matthew Bohnert took over on the mound in the bottom of the seventh and retired the next seven he saw with five punch outs. Trey Nordmann finished the Knights off, getting the last two outs of the game to secure the 3-2 victory.
