Stout in second, Bisons third after day one of ASUN Women's Golf Championship

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Lipscomb women's golf team fired its best round ever in an ASUN Championship Sunday afternoon as the Bisons carded a 294 team total in the first round of the 2022 conference championship at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia.

The Bisons are tied for third with Eastern Kentucky at +6 after the first 18 holes. They are three strokes ahead of fifth-place Jacksonville State (+9, 297).

No. 48 North Florida leads the championship at -5 with a 283 team total. Kennesaw State is second at -2 with a 286.

Graduate student and second team All-Conference selection Siarra Stout powered the Bisons and finished just one stroke off the best individual round by a Bison in ASUN Championship history with a -2, 70 in the first round.

The Franklin, Tennessee product ran into some trouble on the par-5 second with a double-bogey, but from that point on, she drained six birdies and went 4-under par through her final 13 holes.

After making the turn at +1 with a 37, Stout dropped four birdies on the backside, including three-straight to enter the clubhouse, and will tee off on Monday just one stroke off the lead. She is tied with four other golfers for 2nd-place overall in the 55-person field.

 

ASUN Freshman of the Year Lauren Thompson wasn't far behind and closed the day with only one blemish on the scorecard as she turned in a +1, 73 to tie for 11th overall. The second team All-ASUN selection recorded 17 pars and a single bogey on the par-4 seventh hole.

Junior Mary Kate Smith wrapped up her first 18 holes in a tie for 21st after shooting 75 (+3). She carded three birdies on the day and was sitting at just one over par through 14 holes before bogeying three of her last four.

Just one stroke behind Smith was Ally Williams, who fired a +4, 76 on Sunday. She was three over after her first five holes, but managed to right the ship with a birdie on No. 10 on her way to a one over 37 on the back nine to tie for 29th overall.

Kaylee Wu wrapped up the scoring for the Bisons with an 80 (+8) on day one. She picked up two birdies on the afternoon and ended the round in 44th.

CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
  • Stout led the field in par-4 scoring with a 3.60 stroke average. She was -4 on the day.
  • Stout also paced the field with six birdies on day one, while four others turned in five.
  • Smith led the field in par-5 scoring as she finished -2 with a 4.50 average.
  • Thompson led the field with 17 pars. Williams was second on the team with 13.
  • As a team, the Bisons were third overall on par 4's with a 4.10 average and fourth overall on par 5's with a 5.15 average. They shot +4 on par 4's and +3 on par 5's.
  • The Bisons carded 12 birdies as a group, the fourth most on day one. North Florida led the field with 15.
