THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb Baseball struggled for timely hits all afternoon as it dropped an 8-1 decision in the rubber game of the series at Jacksonville State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jacksonville State took the lead in the bottom of the second when a leadoff double came around to score for a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless third inning, the Gamecocks scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 4-0 advantage.
The Bisons had runners in scoring position in each of the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but were unable to find the timely hit and had stranded seven runners through the first six innings.
Lipscomb finally cracked the scoreboard in the top of the seventh.
Maddux Houghton got the offense going with a one-out single to right field.
Malik Williams connected on his second base hit of the afternoon to put runners on first and second with a pair of outs.
Rudy Maxwell cashed in with a rip through the left side that scored Houghton to cut into the JSU lead 4-1.
The Gamecocks added two more each in the seventh and eighth innings for the 8-1 victory to clinch the series.
