Hong cards 61 in final round at Streamsong Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Fla. – Lipscomb's Jason Hong set the course record at Streamsong Blue with an 11-under 61 to lead the Bisons on the final day at the Allstate Streamsong Invitational on Tuesday.

The senior rolled in 12 birdies, including stretches of eight straight on holes 2-9 and four straight on 12-15. He climbed 23 spots on the final day to earn a 3rd-place finish for the event after turning in a -15, 201 with rounds of 71-69-61.

No round of 59 has ever been shot in the history of Division I men's golf and up until hole 17, Hong had it in his sight. But nonetheless, the watch for 59 was officially under way until his second shot on the 690-yard par 5 sailed left into thick brush, forcing him to scramble to make bogey. He then had to muscle a shot from the right-side rough on 18, but the Lidcombe, Australia native two-putted and walked off the green with his hat in one hand and a par and course record 61 in the other.

His round was also a Lipscomb program record, dethroning legend Dawson Armstrong's 63 at the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate in 2017-18.

The storyline on the final day may have belonged to Hong, but the Bisons as a team also showed out with an 18-hole program record after firing a -33, 255. Four of the starting five shot -7 or better and the score that wasn't counted was a -3. It's safe to say, the Bisons had a good day.

The purple and gold climbed five spots and earned a 2nd-place finish with a weekly total of 49, 815 (281-279-255). Lipscomb started the day trailing eventual champion Virginia by 25 strokes. The end result was seven. UVA finished at -56 with an 808.

Junior Ford Goldasich finished second overall, one stroke ahead of Hong, with a -16, 200 (67-68-65). He made the turn at two-under and added five back-nine birdies to climb four spots on the leaderboard.

Will Holan caught fire on Tuesday with a 64, which was one stroke off the previous program record. He wrapped up the weekend at -11 with a 205 (70-71-64). The junior finished at 8-under par on the day with two bogeys.

Gregor McKenzie jumped 23 spots on the leaderboard with a career record 65 (-7) on Tuesday to finish tied for 30th at-6, 210 (73-72-65).

Austin Aliff wrapped up the Bisons starting group with a -3, 214 in the final round for a 45th-place finish.
