
Volleyball drops three-set match to Omaha

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The slide continued for the Lipscomb volleyball team Friday evening as the Bisons fell in straight sets (19-25, 19-25, 23-25) to Omaha on day two of the Jayhawk Classic.
The Bisons (3-7) have dropped six of their last seven outings, but they have faced one of the toughest schedules in the country. Their opponents in that stretch are 52-16 on the year, two have been ranked and three others are receiving votes for the top-25.
Sophomore Addi Pelham powered the team with 12 kills, while freshman Jada DiVita added 10 while hitting .409 with only one error.
Sophia Hudepohl recorded 28 assists, five digs and two blocks.

Lipscomb will wrap up play in Lawrence at noon on Saturday when it faces Central Florida, who is receiving votes for the top-25.

- Lipscomb got a boost from DiVita early as the Gross Point Farms, Michigan product produced six kills on her first 10 swings (.600) to pull Lipscomb within 9-8 of Omaha.
- The Mavericks stretched their lead to five before three-straight Lipscomb attack errors extended the score to 23-15 before Marriah Buss earned the winning kill at 25-19.
- DiVita finished with six kills and a .417 hitting %.
- Omaha outhit Lipscomb .259 to .115 and both sides blocked a pair of balls.

- The Mavericks jumped out 5-1 to open the second set and eventually made it 9-4 before three-straight kills from Pelham and an ace from DiVita pulled Lipscomb to within a point.
- Omaha began to stretch its lead back out, but each time, kills from Pelham, Courtney Jones and DiVita kept the Bisons with two.
- After Lipscomb fought to get back within 20-19, Omaha used a 5-0 run to end the frame and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Pelham was the one this time with six kills and a .400 hitting clip, while Jones added five kills and a .308 attack percentage.
- Hudepohl collected 11 assists on 16 kills, while Delaney Smith added four assists and four digs.
- Omaha outhit Lipscomb .364 to .238 and blocked three balls.
SET 3
- Set three was the closest of the day with 10 ties and six lead changes.
- Lipscomb trailed 5-4 early on, but responded with a 9-3 run behind a pair of kills and an ace from Caroline Stogner and a big block from Kailee Bass.
- Omaha started putting together small runs late and would end up tying the score at 19.
- Three straight kills from Pelham and a bad set from the Mavericks put the Bisons in front 23-22.
- Omaha, however, ran off three consecutive points to come from behind and take the 3-0 win, 25-23.
- Pelham again had six kills, while Caroline Stogner added four.
- Hudepohl assisted on 12 of the team's 15 kills.
- Lipscomb outhit Omaha .250 to .212 and blocked two balls.

BISON NOTES
- For the season as a whole, Lipscomb has faced the 19th-toughest overall schedule in the country and the 8th-toughest amongst all mid-majors.
- Omaha won the hitting battle .280 to .213 and blocked seven balls to Lipscomb's four.
- The Bisons had three service aces and 14 errors, giving the team 32 in two days.
- Jones finished with eight kills and four digs.
- Stogner added six kills and an ace.
