Volleyball wins at Bellarmine to sweep ASUN weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lipscomb completed its best weekend of the season Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-1 victory on the road at Bellarmine behind set scores of 25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 25-21. It improved the Bisons to 5-8 overall, but more importantly 2-0 in the ASUN after sweeping Eastern Kentucky on Friday.

A trio of Bisons finished with double-digit kills, led by 16 from Caroline Stogner and Jada DiVita. Stogner hit .308 and added six digs, while DiVita swung .353 with six digs and three blocks.

Meg Mersman collected 11 kills behind a .360 attack percentage, while also blocking four balls.

Freshman setter Sophia Hudepohl set a career high for the second day in a row with 46 assists. She was just one dig shy of a double-double with nine, and added three blocks and three kills.

Libero Delaney Smith powered the team with 14 digs.

Lipscomb will be back in Nashville next weekend after a three-week road trip. They will welcome North Florida at 6 p.m. on Friday before hosting Jacksonville at 6 p.m. on Saturday inside Allen Arena.

FROM THE BENCH – HC BRANDON ROSENTHAL
I am really pleased with how we played today. I saw incredible fight from our girls and it's fun to coach in matches like that. The preparation all week was fantastic. I always respect Bellarmine and what they do. They play so hard all the time and make you earn your points and they did that today.

Our girls responded extremely well and I think what you are staring to see is our confidence shine through, even in the tough moments. Defensively I thought we did a nice job against a team that moves the ball around on the other side.

Sophia really played a great match and distributed the ball well in big moments.

I thought our middles also did a nice job and came up with some big points at the net and attacking wise. Our outsides were just tremendous today. I thought both Jada and Stogs put on a show at times, showing what they can do and how diverse their game is.

All-in-all, I am really excited for the girls to win the weekend and get the conference season off to a good start. We will enjoy this and get ready to finally be home.

We haven't been home in three weeks and it will be nice come Thursday when we can go home after practice instead of having to worry about packing and hitting the road.

I can't say enough about our girls and the staff for continuing to push the vision as we know what we are capable of. I am excited about what's ahead.

I'd love too see our tremendous fans come out on Friday as we know we are going to have a battle with UNF.
