Men's Golf

Men's Golf wins the Graeme McDowell, Goldasich claims first-career individual title

GLENCOE, Ala. – Lipscomb men's golf battled until the final stroke and eventually was crowned champion of the Graeme McDowell Invitational, finishing with an even-par 288 on Tuesday and claiming a 4-stroke victory over a tough field at RTJ at Silver Lakes in Glencoe, Alabama. The purple and gold brought home its first tournament win since the 2017 Bayou City Classic in Houston, Texas.

Junior Ford Goldasich claimed his first collegiate victory, firing a 4-under 68 on the final day before winning on the second playoff hole over North Alabama's Andre Jacobs, who entered Tuesday three shots ahead of the Bison.

On a course that stretched over 7,500 yards and played tough all week, Goldasich didn't let it phase him. His 68 was the best round of the invitational and was three strokes better than anyone else in the 72-man field on Tuesday.

The Homewood, Alabama native turned in an unblemished scorecard with four birdies and 14 pars. He rolled in back-to-back birds on three and four before adding another on hole six to give him a 33 at the turn. He then opened the back nine with his final birdie on the par-5, 10th before going on to par the rest and setting up a two-man playoff with Jacobs.

On the first playoff on hole, both men had birdie looks from within 20 feet, but neither capitalized. On the ensuing playoff, Goldasich striped his drive down the middle while Jacobs hooked his shot out of bounds. After putting his approach to 15-feet, the junior Bison two-putted his way to victory with a three-round total of +2, 218 (77-73-68).

Jason Hong put up another steady performance to give him a third-place finish, just two strokes behind Goldasich. Hong finished at +4 with a 220 total after rounds of 73-73-74. He struggled to begin the day with four bogeys in a six-hole stretch, but rallied back with a one-under 35 on the back to give him a second-consecutive top-3 finish to begin the 2022-23 campaign.

Will Holan gave the Bisons their third top-5 finisher after shooting +5, 221 over the two days. He carded a 76-74 on Monday before climbing 10 spots in the final round with a 71. He drained three birdies on the back nine to cement his fifth-place position.

Austin Aliff tied for 15th after posting a 75 in all three rounds, while Gregor McKenzie tied for 38th (76-76-82).

Playing as an individual, Minas Manias tied for 50th after shooting a 238 (76-81-81).
