Bisons Track & Field Teams Put On Strong Showing at Commodore Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men's and women's track and field finished up their first meet of the new year on Saturday as they competed in the Commodore Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. The Bisons finished with a new program record in the 200m run and a number of top-10 finishes from the Herd.
The first day of competition saw several Bisons put on impressive shows in their respective events.
For the women's team, sophomore Kennedy Miller found success early on the first day by breaking her own indoor program record in the 200m run with a 7th-place finish (25.44). This time broke the previous record of 25.61, which Miller ran at the Samford Bulldog Invite last season.
Sophomore Bella Jackson posted a 2nd-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.77m (5' 9.75"). This height matched her program record, which was set at the Tom Hathaway Classic last season. Freshman Makayla Watson also found success on day one as she tallied a 9th-place finish in the 200m run (25.58).
On the men's side on the first day of the Commodore Challenge, seniors Bill Comstock and Demontae Wilson led the Herd by finishing 7th in the 600m run (1:21.42) and 8th in the 300m run (35.24) respectively.
The Bisons continued their strong performances on the second day of the meet, headlined by a trio of top-five finishes by the long-distance squad of sophomore Sydney Liddle, junior Mollie Longmire, and freshman James Schmidt.
Sydney Liddle posted the top performance of the second day for Lipscomb with a 3rd-place finish in the 3,000m run (10:03.79), while Mollie Longmire and freshman Ellie Brewer crossed 4th (4:54.88) and 6th (4:55.81) in the 1-mile run.
The women's 4x400m relay team of sophomore Jaden Mathews, sophomore Abigail Alvarado, Kennedy Miller, and sophomore Aislinn McElhaney sprinted to a 6th-place finish (3:55.34).
Sophomore Kaylee Wilson and Abigail Alvarado both tallied 7th-place finishes respectively in the 3,000m run (10:48.45) and in the 400m dash (58.22).
James Schmidt paced the Herd on the second day of the meet by finishing 5th overall in the 1-mile run (4:05.75), which earned Schmidt the second-fastest time in program history behind the program record of 4:03.61 set back in 2022.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Demontae Wilson, sophomore Dimitri Kemp, freshman Saxon Brown, Bill Comstock finished 7th overall (3:21.18), while sophomore Bing Hudson crossed 10th in the 1-mile run (4:13.45).
UP NEXT:
The Bisons will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 27 when the Herd travels to Louisville, Kentucky to take part in the three-day PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
