THE SHORT STORY

Lipscomb bounced back with a 62-55 win at Allen Arena, sweeping the regular-season series with the Gamecocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons came out locked in defensively in the first frame, forcing several tough shots.

Lipscomb's aggressive defense held the Gamecocks to just eight points in the quarter, converting on just 3-of-15 shots.

Blythe Pearson was letting it fly early as she put in 10 of the Bisons 16 points in the first quarter.

JSU regrouped early in the second quarter to cut their deficit to three with 8:37 still to go.

Jalyn Holcomb responded with two three-pointers to stretch their lead back out to nine with 6:52 left.

Neither team shot the ball extremely well but Lipscomb's defense really showed up in a big way throughout the first half.

The Bisons forced the Gamecocks into some unwanted three-point attempts helping the maintain their lead.

JSU started to get back to their normal style of defense, forcing some Lipscomb turnovers in the middle portion of the quarter.

After the Gamecocks hit a three to cut it the Bisons lead to three, Molly Heard responded with a much-needed finish inside to keep the squad ahead.  However, JSU would not go away as they trimmed the lead down to three moments later.

Heard took her man to the cup again and convert inside, making the score 28-23 with 1:24 remaining.

JSU put in a three-pointer with just over 30 seconds remaining in the half for a 28-26 halftime score.

Lipscomb shot 38% from the floor in the first half. Pearson led the way with 10 points followed by Aleah Sorrentino who went for six points and seven rebounds.

The Gamecock put in the first bucket of the third quarter to tie the game at 28 and then took the lead after a steal and on the fastbreak run out.

Holcomb responsed by converted on a layup to tie the game back up.

The Bisons would then switch from their typical man defense to a zone look, which made JSU force up more unwanted shots.

Lipscomb's defensive adjustment sparked a 10-0 run by the Bisons which was spearheaded by a Sorrentino layup plus the harm.

After the timeout was called by JSU to stop the bleeding, the Gamecocks went on a 5-0 run of their own.

Holcomb came up big again for the Bisons, connected on a deep ball. Then, Heard followed that act with a triple of her own to stretch the lead to eight (46-38) to end the quarter.

Still in the contest, the Gamecocks battled back to take the lead (50-49) from the Bisons thanks to a 11-4 run to opened the fourth.

Fortunately, Coach Sumski's bunch seemed to always have an answer as Pearson, already with a career night, knocked down a triple to put the Bisons back on top.

Moments later Claira got one to go inside despite the contact to extend the Bisons lead back out to five.

From there, the Bison converted on free throws down the stretch to get back in the win column with a 62-55 win at home.
