THE SHORT STORY
Despite a disappointing third quarter, Lipscomb held off another comeback attempt in ASUN play to defeat Central Arkansas 65-57 on the road.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UCA was the aggressor early, getting shots to fall, for an early 7-4 advantage capped off by a three-pointer at the 6:37 mark
Lipscomb began to heat up minutes later to tie the game on a three by
Blythe Pearson on an assist from
Ainhoa Cea.
From that bucket, the Bisons went on a 15-point scoring run lasting until the 1:09 minute mark of the first quarter.
The run led to the Bisons holding a 21-9 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
Central Arkansas continued to battle despite their deficit in the second, outscoring the Bisons 15-12 in the quarter.
Turnovers by both squads prevented either team from getting things going offensively, but the Bisons maintained a nine-point lead at halftime.
Lipscomb shot 56% from the floor in the first half, led by
Bella Vinson with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
UCA began their comeback in the third quarter, going on an 11-2 run in the second half and taking the lead with 4:44 remaining.
During that span, the squad shot just 1-of-11, while UCA converted on 5-of-7 of their attempts.
In all, UCA outscored the Bisons 22-8 in the third and held a 46-41 advantage entering the fourth quarter.
The Bisons began to regroup in the fourth and fought back to take the lead.
Molly Heard gave some important minutes off the bench to lead the Bisons in their comeback effort.
Heard converted on a layup inside while being fouled and got the ensuing free throw to go to give her squad a three-point lead with 8:51 remaining.
A few possessions later, Heard tied the game back up with a triple from the wing.
Lipscomb stretched the lead to three with 4:16 remaining on a layup inside from Vinson.
The Bisons executed on several possessions down the stretch and went 5-of-6 from the line, helping them claim another victory on the road 65-57.
