Lipscomb was able to win possession and had several early looks. One of the best early looks came in the 8' minute when Jones put a shot in that clanged off the post. Smith was there for the rebound, but Belmont's keeper made an impressive save to keep things scoreless.
Smith nearly got Lipscomb on the board again in the 10' minute with a shot that was saved on the line by a Belmont defender.
Belmont struck first in the 28' minute. Lipscomb keeper
Juan Carlos Rodriguez made an impressive save on a shot during the run of play, but the ball went out for a corner kick. On the ensuing set piece, the Bisons found the back of the net for a 1-0 Belmont advantage.
Lipscomb came storming back on the kickoff and earned a corner kick of its own. Dang got on the end of the service, but his header was saved, keeping Belmont in the lead.
The Bruins kept the lead through the next several minutes, but the Bisons continued to attack and test the Belmont back line. In the 64' minute Spicer got behind the Belmont defense and cut inside the box. While trying to get the shot off, Spicer was taken down in the box and Lipscomb was awarded a penalty kick. Spicer converted from the spot for a 1-1 match.
The pace of play picked up significantly after the equalizer and Belmont found the go-ahead goal in the 72' minute.
Down by a strike, the Bisons didn't panic and kept to its tactics. They were awarded with a flurry of late goals. Dang tied the game up again in the 83' minute when he emphatically put the ball in the back of the net on a corner kick for a 2-2 match.
Jones broke the deadlock in the 85' minute for a 3-2 Lipscomb lead. Bryan connected with Alonefti in the midfield who played a brilliant ball forward. Jones was streaking up the middle and got on the end of the ball and outpaced the defense. The Belmont keeper charged off his line, but Jones side-stepped him and easily put the ball in the back of the empty net.
Naumann sealed the deal for the Bisons in the 88' minute for a 4-2 advantage. Spicer once again showed his speed and charged in the box. He cut the ball back to his right foot and passed the ball to an open Naumann at the top of the box who converted the strike from distance.
