THE SHORT STORY
Lipscomb's offense erupted for a 96 point performance, led by
Derrin Boyd with 22 points to down Tennessee Tech in a non-conference road matchup on Tuesday night in Cookeville.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee Tech got out to an early 4-0 lead in its home opener against the Bisons. After early offensive struggles,
Will Pruitt drove through a crowd of Eagles and connected on a fadeaway jumper to get the Bisons on the board.
The Eagles, however responded with a pair of baskets and extended its lead back out 9-2 at the 16:00 mark of the first half.
AJ McGinnis got going from range with a three-pointer, cutting the lead back to three, but Tennessee Tech held a 12-7 advantage at the first media timeout.
Lipscomb went on a 6-0 run out of the timeout, taking its first lead of the night, 13-12 with just over 10 minutes left to play in the first frame.
Tennessee Tech, however, responded and retook a 17-13 lead at the second media timeout of the half.
Lipscomb then locked in and went on a 27-5 run to end the half with a 40-22 advantage.
The Bisons never looked back in the second half, as it outscored the Golden Eagles 56-43 in the frame to secure a 96-65 road victory early in the non-conference season.
HERD NOTES
- The Bisons shot 57-percent from the field and 44-percent from behind the arc.
- Lipscomb connected at an 86-percent clip from the charity stripe.
- Lipscomb forced 14 turnovers and scored 21 points on those turnovers while it only committed six turnovers of its own.
- Four Bisons were in double figures while Boyd led the way with a 22-point performance.
- Owen McCormack was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
- 10 Bisons recorded points on the night.
