Volleyball Announces 2024 Recruiting Class

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb volleyball announced Wednesday the addition of two new Bisons to their program for the 2024 season. The Bisons will add Setter Kelsey Schenck and Defensive Specialist Luca Bredenberg to their ranks as freshmen in the coming season.

Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal expressed his enthusiasm for the recruiting class, saying, "We are extremely excited about the Class of 2024. We believe that both individuals possess a unique blend of talent and leadership abilities that will help our program for years to come. Throughout the recruiting process, we have continually been impressed with their continued growth and development through their high school and club seasons. We believe that both Kelsey and Luca will have quite the impact on our program."

Five-foot Eleven Setter Schenck comes to Lipscomb from Overland Park, Kansas, where she trained at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School.

"We believe Kelsey is one of the top setters of the 2024 class," said Coach Brandon Rosenthal. "She has completely blown us away with her multi-sport prowess and all that goes into playing three different sports all year long. Her dedication to her craft is remarkable, and we often ask how she has time to fit it all in."

Over her years at Saint Thomas Aquinas, Schenck was named an AVCA High School All American, First Team EKL and 1st Team All-State her senior season. She's a 2x 5A State Champion in volleyball and a 3x 5A State Champion in basketball. Schenck holds her high school record in aces (142) and set efficiency (.455) while finishing second in assists (2,506) and sixth in digs (841). Her club team also won the 2021 USAV Junior National Championship in the national division.

"We continue to be impressed with Kelsey's development as a setter. Her leadership abilities and her quiet confidence when executing the offense is extremely impressive. Kelsey is a winner and has proven that over and over as nearly every sport she touches, she wins championships," commented Rosenthal. "We believe that every Team that Kelsey is on is bolstered by her drive to win and, ultimately, her dedication. We believe that Kelsey will be a huge addition to our program and have no doubts that she will help with her high level of competition in continuing to push this program forward to the next level."

Schenck lists her favorite volleyball memory as winning state in 2022 against her rival high school.

"I decided to attend Lipscomb University because when I immediately walked on campus, it felt like home. The family atmosphere was amazing, and I just felt so welcomed. I know I am going to a place that is going to push me in academics and athletics," said Schenck.

Five-foot Seven Defensive Specialist/Libero Luca Bredenberg joins the Lipscomb Volleyball program from Chanhassen, Minnesota, where she trained at Southwest Christian High School and North Lights Volleyball Club.

"Luca is a tireless worker that continues to impress us with her dedication to her game," said Rosenthal. "Instantly, you can see why Luca is so well-liked by her teammates and friends. She has a wonderful spirit about her, and coupled with a tremendous work ethic, Luca is a true gem."

Over the past four seasons with Southwest Christian High School, Bredenberg earned class AA All-Conference in 2022 and class AA All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2021.

Rosenthal commented, "Luca's ability to cover a lot of ground on the court, in addition to her ability to pass, will make her a tremendous asset to our Team. She has impressed a lot when it comes to making lightning-quick moves and tireless pursuit on the defensive front. We couldn't be more excited to add Luca to our Team, as defense is so important in creating the pressure we are looking for. As an individual, it has been awesome getting to know Luca and her family over the past couple of years, and we cannot wait for others to experience the same thing we do every time we have the opportunity to be around her."

Bredenberg lists her favorite volleyball memory as winning the championships at AAU Nationals in Orlando, Florida, in the summer of 2019.

"I chose Lipscomb volleyball because of the wonderful culture and amazing coaching staff. The minute I stepped in the gym, it felt like home, said Bredenberg."
