Men’s Tennis Takes Down Tigers 5-2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis took on the Tennessee State Tigers in a Friday night matchup between local foes. The Bisons sent the Tigers home packing in a 5-2 victory highlighted by impressive singles play on each court.

"It was a great team win today," said head coach Ben Roeser. "We really had to battle through adversity and every single person on the team really had to step up and help out."

The Bisons took the early lead after claiming the doubles point to open match scoring. After Carlos Salas Tulla and Luka Stojanovic were defeated on court two, Lipscomb's squad kicked up the intensity with wins on courts one and three.

Maksim Bogdanovich and Jake Penny claimed the Bisons' first doubles victory of the night with a 6-2 triumph at the top spot. Henrique Ushizima and Vikash Singh brought home Lipscomb's second doubles win in a 6-1 victory on court three to cement the doubles point in the Bisons' favor.

Lipscomb's quad brought this momentum with them into singles play as Bogdanovich led the Bisons off the line from the top spot with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to open singles play scoring. The Tigers broke into the match on court three as Jake Penny fell 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 to his opponent.

Vikash Singh extended the Bisons' lead to 3-1 with his win on court four. Singh battled to a third set with his foe before his TSU opponent retired, awarding Singh the win (2-6, 7-5, wr (1-1)). TSU earned their second point of the night to cut the Bisons' lead to one point as Henrique Ushizima was defeated 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) at the No. 2 spot.

The Bisons clinched the match on court four as Luka Stojanovic took home a hard-fought victory with scores of 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) to earn his win. Carlos Salas Tulla brought home the final point of the match on court six in a knock-down drag-out of a match that concluded with scores of 7-6(9-7), 6-7(7-9), 11-9 to seal the match in Lipscomb's favor.

"TSU is a much-improved team and we knew we really had to come out strong against them," Roeser finished. "We were down in a lot of matches, but our mental attitude was the best it's been all year. Hopefully we can use this momentum for the rest of the season."
