Baseball Wins Midweek Matchup With Screaming Eagles

Final Score: Lipscomb: 6, Southern Indiana: 4
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Ken Dugan Field)
Records:  Lipscomb: (3-1), Southern Indiana (3-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Caleb Ketchup started things off in the first inning with a lead-off single. An error on the throw by the Southern Indiana's second basemen allowed Ketchup to advance to second. After a pop out to right field, Mason Lundgrin singled to left, which moved Ketchup to third. Both runners stole on the next at-bat, giving the squad an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Lipscomb added another run on the board in the bottom of the third. Ketchup singled again to third, then Alex Vergara was granted a free base on a walk. A balk was called during Lundgrin's at-bat, moving Vergara and Ketchup to second and third. Lundgrin then sent a hard grounder to the shortstop, bringing Ketchup in for the second time this contest. The Bisons loaded bases in the same inning but weren't able to bring in anymore runs.

After three scoreless innings from both squads, Southern Indiana erupted for three runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Screaming Eagles rattled off a single up the left side, bringing in the first run, and then a double to left center, allowing in the other two runs home. Lipscomb escaped with a one-run deficit with a strikeout to end the half-inning.

The Screaming Eagles lead lasted just one inning as the Bisons tallied three runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Will Lee led gave the Bisons a spark with a rocket that flew over the right-center field wall to even the score. Ketchup and Vergara followed that act with doubles down the left field line later in the inning, bringing in a score. Lundgrin then placed another well hit ball, which was gathered by the shortstop, to allow Vergara to cross home plate, giving Lipscomb a 5-3 advantage.

With the bases load in the bottom of the eight, Lipscomb walked in an insurance run to push their lead to three (6-3). Southern Indiana added a run on a passed ball and brought tying run to the plate after a hit batter, but the Bison closed the contest on a strikeout to win their first midweek battle of their 2023 campaign 6-4 over Southern Indiana at Ken Dugan Field.
