Baseball Defeated by Flames in Series Opener

Final Score: Lipscomb: 5, Illinois Chicago: 7
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Ken Dugan Field)
Records:  Lipscomb: (3-2), Illinois Chicago (4-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The action began in the top of the second as the first batter in the inning sent a solo shot over the center field wall to give UIC the lead. That would be the only score of the inning for the Flames as the Bisons' Friday starter Michael Dunkelberger retired the side.

Unfortunately for the Bisons, their bats weren't effective for the first five innings as they were only able to muster two hits in that frame. The cold streak allowed the Flames to jump to a healthy lead, beginning with a three-run fourth for UIC. The Flames put together four hits in the inning, including a double down the left field line that brought in two, followed by a fielder's choice with two on which brought home another.

UIC added more runs in the sixth on a single to right field, bringing in two extra. Lipscomb answered with a lead-off homer to center field by Alex Vergara, which sparked some life into the Bisons bats.

Coach Forehand's bunch tag on another in the following inning, with another homer that pulled just fair over the left field wall by Caleb Ketchup, his first of the season.

UIC added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to increase their lead to five scores. Lipscomb continued to inch their way closer with two more runs in the bottom half of the eighth as Jake Berg roped a double to left, scoring two for a 7-4 score with an inning remaining.

In the ninth, the Bisons added one more run in their final attempts at the plate. Mason Lundgrin ripped a triple that flew past the first basemen, scoring the Bisons' fifth run with one out, however, the following two batters struck out swinging, giving the Flames a game one victory in the first-ever meeting between the two ball clubs.
