HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flames picked up where they left-off in the first meeting of the series with a solo shot to right in the top of the first, followed by a triple down the right-field line later in the order for a quick 2-0 advantage.
After a slow start to game one, Lipscomb's bats began to heat up in the later innings. That momentum carried over nto game two as the Bisons tallied three runs in their first few attempts at the plate. With two runners on, last season's home-run leader, Trace Willhoite, went yard to give his squad a 3-1 advantage.
The Bisons added another run in the bottom of the fourth as Will Lee got into the action with a solo homer to left as well. Fireworks would continue as UIC evened the score at four runs apiece, sending home two baserunners. Lipscomb responded with a run in their next at-bat as Willhoite hit his second bomb of the afternoon.
The tide shifted in the Flames' favor with a big three-run inning where the Bisons walked in two runs, and a sacrifice fly sent another runner home in the fourth. After two scoreless frames on both ball clubs, Lipscomb inched closer with another long ball, this time by Chaz Bertolani, the third of his career.
Another run from the Flames extended their lead back out to two runs in the top of the seventh. Logan Van Treeck took the mound to close the game and pitched a masterful two innings which allowed prevent the Flames from adding any insurance runs.
UIC's lead would hold until the bottom of the ninth when the Coach Forehand's unit made their rally. Caleb Ketchup walked to start things off in Bisons' final push. David Coppedge followed that with a single, which moved Ketchup to second.
