HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bisons picked up where they lefted off in game two as Chaz Bertolani sent a three-run homer to left field to give Lipscomb a first inning 3-0 lead.

Starting pitcher, Braydon Tucker was dealing early, with a no hitter until the top of the fourth, wherer the Flames put up their first run of the contest on a single up the middle bringing in a baserunner on third.

UIC evened the score in the top of the fifth on a two-run shot to right field. After a scoreless bottom half, Bertolani went yard for the second time on the day and the third in the series, bringing in Willhoite after his single which started Bisons' plate appearances.

The Flames got to within a run on a failed pickoff attempt, which moved a run home on the throwing error in the seventh Lipscomb responded with two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh which proved to seal the deal. Trace Willhoite continued his hot stretch of play at the plate, sending a double to left center, bringing in the first of the two runs in the frame. Later in the order, Bertolani notched his seventh RBI of the series on a sacrifice fly, allowing Willhoite to cross home plate for the Bisons.

Noah Thompson pitched the final four innings allowing just three hits while recording five strikeouts, including two in the ninth, to shut the door on the Flames, giving the Bisons the series win with a 7-4 game three final.

HERD NOTES

  • Bertolani recorded six RBIs, making him responsible for all but one of the Bisons' runs in game three.
  • Willhoite was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate with an RBI as well.
  • Noah Thompson got the win, his second of the season.
  • The Bisons improved to 5-2 on the season with their second series.
