Bisons Relinquish Pair of 3-4 Heartbreakers to Governors, Knights

CLARKSVILLE/NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb men's tennis team put up a pair of grit-filled battles this weekend in a pair of ASUN matches against the Austin Peay Governors and the Bellarmine Knights. The Bisons fell 3-4 to the Governors in Clarksville Saturday afternoon and fell 3-4 to the Knights on Sunday afternoon at home despite some big performances for the Bisons.
 
Things looked bright for the Bisons Saturday afternoon as Maksim Bogdanovich and Luka Stojanovic teamed up to bring the squad the first singles victory of the match (6-2). The Governors pulled off a comeback with wins on courts two and three over the Lipscomb duos to go up 1-0 in the match.
 
Austin Peay pressed their advantage with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court two over Henrique Ushizima before Vikash Singh responded with a big 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win on court four to bring the Bisons back in the running. Jake Penny put up an immense battle on court three but his opponent walked away with the 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win for the Govs.
 
Maksim Bogdanovich recorded the next point for Lipscomb to bring the two teams back within one point as he notched a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 win at the top spot. Carlos Salas Tulla next pulled through for the Purple and Gold to bring things tied with his 7-6(7-3), 6-3 win at No. 5.
 
Luka Stojanovic was locked in a knock-down drag-out battle with opponent on court six before the Govs emerged with the 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) win to claim the narrow 4-3 victory for Austin Peay to conclude the five-hour-and-22-minute-long match.
 
The Bisons broke out well in their Sunday match against Bellarmine, recovering on the top two courts after a loss at No. 3 to claim the doubles point and the early lead. Bogdanovich and Stojanovic teamed up at the top spot for their 6-2 win while Jake Penny and Carlos Salas Tulla brought home the Bisons' other doubles victory with a 6-4 triumph on court two.
 
The Knights retaliated with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court three over Penny, a 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 win at No. 6 over Stojanovic, and a 6-3, 7-5 win on court five over Salas Tulla to put the Knights in a clinching position. Maksim Bogdanovich battled back for the Bisons, securing a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) win on court one to bring the squad some much-needed momentum.
 
Henrique Ushizima felt the surge and answered with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory on court two to bring the match tied at 3-3 as the final match continued. Vikash Singh made an incredible comeback to force his opponent to a third set, but the Knights emerged victorious with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win on court four to claim the 4-3 win on Sunday.
