HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb kept pace with the highly ranked Commodores early but were unable to produce offensively, dropping their midweek matchup with No. 4 Vanderbilt 11-1.
After holding Vanderbilt's hot bats to a run in the first inning, Lipscomb held the fourth-ranked Commodores scoreless for the next two frames.
However, Lipscomb could not to get anything pasted the Commodores defense. Vanderbilt then erupted for three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a homer to left which plated two, and a groundout to third, giving the home team a 4-0 advantage.
The Bisons would eventually string together a pair of hits in the top of the sixth to score a run. Trace Willhoite singled to left field, scoring Alex Vergara after he doubled in his at-bat and a ground ball from Mason Lundgrin that moved him to third.
Unfortunately, Lipscomb was unable to build off that inning of work and Vanderbilt added seven more runs in the final three innings, five of them in the eighth and final inning resulting in an 11-1 loss for the Bisons with the run-ruled in effect. The Bisons were held to three hits on the night, while Vanderbilt notched nine hits in their plate appearances.
