HOW IT HAPPENED
Game two between the Bisons and Tigers saw a lot of fireworks, with several multi-run innings for both ball clubs. Lipscomb scored game two's first run as Alex Vergara, in the two whole, went yard with a solo shot to left field to give the Bisons an early 1-0 advantage.
Auburn responded with a seven-run inning in the bottom of the second. The Tigers were able to string together seven hits to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Lipscomb did not let the Tiger's big inning rattle them as they inched their way back into the ball game.
The Bisons cut their deficit to three with a three-run third inning. Mason Lundgrin started the sequence with a double to left field to bring in the first of the three, and then Trace Willhoite homered for the fourth time this season, plating two to make the score 7-4 midway through the third.
After the Tigers added another run in the bottom of the third, the Bisons rallied off six runs, the most in a inning this season, to take a 10-8 lead. Caleb Ketchup went yard after Alec Gonzalez got on with a two-out single, to bring the Bisons within two runs. Two more singles from Lundgrin and Willhoite put two runners on for Austin Kelly, who made the most of his opportunity with a bomb to left field, capping off an electric inning that shifted the momentum Lipscomb's way.
Logan Van Treeck took the mound in relief of the Bisons' Saturday starter, Ethan Smith, and pitched lights out. Van Treeck pitched four innings for the Bisons, totaling seven strikeouts, but the Tigers closed the gap to a run in the sixth with a single to third base. The Bisons answered the Auburn score with a score of their own in the top of the seventh Lundgrin reached base for the four straight time on a fielder's choice, which brought home Gonzalez and increased their lead by a run (11-9).
Auburn then tied the ball game on a two-run blast to left-center in the bottom half of the eighth. The Bisons hot day at the plate stalled in the top of the ninth, allowing the Tigers to win the game with another score. Auburn loaded the bases and eventually singled up to the middle, plating the series-winning run in walk-off fashion.
