
Women’s Tennis Bested by Blazers, Fall 5-2 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lipscomb women's tennis traveled to Birmingham, Ala. this weekend to compete with the Samford Bulldogs and the UAB Blazers. After having their Friday match against Samford postponed and later canceled due to weather conditions, the Bisons fell 5-2 to the Blazers on Saturday.
The Bisons dropped the first point in the match to the Blazers as Sasha Dobranos and Anja Trbeznik fell 6-3 on court one, followed by Liza Diachenko and Perri Howard's 7-6 defeat on court three to open the scoring in UAB's favor.
Dobranos bounced back in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 straight set win at the top spot to open the singles play scoring and bring the match tied. The Blazers responded with a trio of straight set wins of their own on courts four, three, and six over Liza Diachenko, Anja Trbeznik, and Perri Howard respectively.
Two of the Bisons' youngest members fought well against their UAB foes. Sofiia Paladi fell in a three-set heartbreaker to her opponent on court two (7-5, 4-6, 4-10) to put the Blazers up 5-1 in the match.
Alina Cherniaieva brought home the final point of the match for Lipscomb after her own three set battle at the No. 5 spot. Cherniaieva claimed her third singles victory of the season with set scores of 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 over her Blazer opponent.
