HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Lipscomb used an eight-run fourth inning to run past the Knights to even the series at a game each heading into Sunday.
The Bisons' Saturday starter Braydon Tucker got the call on the hill in game two of the series with the Knights. Despite an error in the first frame, Tucker retired the next three batters to end the opening plate attempts for Bellarmine.
Caleb Ketchup sent the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a quick 1-0 advantage in the home half of the opening inning. From there, both pitchers settled in the second and third, retiring each of the six straight batters in order.Â
However, Lipscomb's bats exploded in the fourth inning, plating eight runs, the most in a one inning all season. After a strikeout opened the inning, Trace Willhoite was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second and then third on a wild pitch. A Jake Berg bunt single to plate Willhoite for the first run.Â
Parks Bouck then singled down the right-field line to score another. A stolen base and walk loaded the bases, bringing up Hayden Skipper, who walked to score the third run of the fourth. With the bases still loaded, Caleb Ketchup belted a grand slam to center field to give the Bisons an eight-run advantage
Ketchup's home run broke the single-season home run record, which was set by last season's squad giving the Bisons their 67th on the year. Right after, Alex Vergara added another home run to their season total to cap off an eight-run inning.Â
Lipscomb added two more on a sacrifice fly out to center field and then a single to center field from Cam McMillan to give the bunch a commanding 10-0 lead. The Knights got on the board in their next at-bats coming on a single to that plated two, but the home runs continued to pile on for the Bisons as Trace Willhoite, Lipscomb's career yard ball leader, notched his 12th bomb of the season on a solo shot to left. Â
Bellarmine brought in a run in the seventh but was retired in the eighth and ninth for a 12-3 win at Ken Dugan Field.Â
Tucker secured the win, which moved him to unbeaten 4-0 on the season. In seven innings of work, he allowed just five hits and three earned runs with six strikeouts in the outing.Â
With four home runs today, Lipscomb is now at 69 on the season with 16 games left in the regular season. Ketchup highlight Saturday as he finished 2-of-4 at the plate with five RBI to lead the team.Â
The Bisons finished 4-of-7 with runners in scoring position and a perfect 4-of-4 with runners on third with less than two outs.Â
