HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb notched their sixth straight ASUN series win since conference play began for the first time in the Bisons' 20 seasons at the Division I level in an 11-3 win over Bellarmine on Sunday.
Mason Lundgrin got the Bisons on the board in the first inning on a single through the left side, which plated Caleb Ketchup. Neither team could muster any runs together in the next two innings, but like Saturday's game, Lipscomb took command in the fourth with a high-scoring frame.
The Bisons tallied five runs in the home half of the fourth, starting with a single from Parks Bouck and an error on the throw home from the left fielder, which allowed two runs to touch home. Will Lee then sent a fly ball to center, allowing another run to score off the tag.
Chaz Bertolani then homered to left field, his fifth of the year to plate the two runners still on, giving Lipscomb a 6-0 advantage.
Bellarmine responded in their next at-bats with back-to-back solo home runs to cut their deficit to four runs. However, the Bisons put up a two spot in the fifth thanks to two doubles by Trace Willhoite and David Coppedge, making the score 8-2 entering the sixth.
More insurance runs came in the bottom of the eighth on a single to left field by Bertolani again to score one, and then a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly which plated the next two. The Knights added one run in the ninth, but the Bisons got the win to close out the series.
Lipscomb outhit the Knights 11-7 in game three and was led by Bertolani, who finished 3-of-4 in the outing with three RBI.
Noah Thompson improved to 6-3 with the win on the hill after a six-inning performance where he struck out two and allowed just two earned runs. Lipscomb advanced nine runners on they day while only leaving five runners stranded. They also were 7-of-14 with runners in scoring position
The win keeps the Bisons in a tie for first place in the ASUN with two home and two away series left in the regular season.
