HOW IT HAPPENED
Tenth-inning magic helps the Bisons claim their seventh straight ASUN series win in Richmond Saturday afternoon.
Unlike game one, Lipscomb scored game two's first run on a single from Mason Lundgrin to bring home the speedy Caleb Ketchup from second with ease.
Eastern Kentucky did not take long to answer, as they sent a three-run shot to right-center field for their first lead of the day.
However, The Bisons continued to put runners on, and on a wild pitch by the Colonels, Parks Bouck was able to touch home to cut Eastern Kentucky's lead in half (3-2).
In the next inning and with two runners on bases, Alex Vergara launched his 13th home run of the year to take a 5-3 lead.
After giving up three runs in the first innings, Braydon Tucker settled in, retiring eleven straight batters until the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the Colonels strung together three hits in that frame and a run on a single through the right side. Tucker and the Bisons managed to get out the jam, limiting the damage as Lipscomb turned a 5-4-3 double play to hold on to a one-run advantage.
Eastern Kentucky would then tie things up in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run, and for the second straight time, the contest would move to extra innings as Hayden Frank sat the Colonels in order in the top of the ninth.
Trace Willhoite started the game-winning sequence in the tenth by being hit by a pitch. A drop-third strikeout and passed ball allowed Willhoite to advance to third. Then, Jake Berg was intentionally walked to put runners on the corner for Will Lee, who found the right-side gap to plate two runs. Frank made quick work of Eastern Kentucky in the bottom half of the tenth inning resulting in a 7-5 win for to clinch the series.
Braydon Tucker had put forward another solid outing in his six innings of work. Tucker had five strikeouts with four runs given up, all earned, and only one strikeout. But, Hayden Frank earned the win after throwing for two and a third innings with four strikeouts out of the seven batters he faced.
Lipscomb outhit the Colonels 9-7 and had another errorless day defensively with a double play, and 11 strikeouts by their pitching staff.
