HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb fell in the final game of the series after their comeback effort to tie the game was not enough, as Eastern Kentucky walked it off in the bottom of the ninth.
Caleb Ketchup put the first run on the board for the Bisons in the top of the first inning after stealing third and then racing home on a throwing error by the Colonel's catcher. EKU answered in the bottom half on a double to left center to even things up after one frame of play.
Parks Bouck hit the first of three home runs by the Bisons in the outing, with two runners on to take a 3-1 lead in the second inning. In the next inning, Alex Vergara stretched the Bisons' early lead with a solo rocket to right field for a 4-1 tally.
The Colonels continued to keep pace with the Bisons' high-scoring offense with a solo home run of their own in the third.
Chaz Bertolani reached on a fielder choice which brought in another run to push Lipscomb's edge back out two-three runs, but Eastern Kentucky rattled off seven runs in the next two innings to take a commanding four-run lead. Some miscues in the fourth allowed two runs in that period, and then five hits and a fielders choice helped EKU plate five in the fifth.
Jake Berg managed to get one back on a solo shot to right field, just his second of the year. Then Ketchup flew out to center field but deep enough to score Bouck from third.
With a 9-7 edge, EKU plated one more run before Lipscomb rallied off three runs in the ninth to tie the game at ten-all. In a bases loaded situation, Will Lee, the hero in game two, was clutch in a big moment for the second straight outing as he doubled to center field to plate all three runs.
Unfortunately, the Colonels walked it off on a single down the left-field line to prevent the sweep in the final matchup of the series.
