HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb began its weekend series with the Lions as they look to win their fourth straight series to start ASUN play. The Bisons took care of business in game one in a 7-2 decision to start the three-game slate. Pitching dominated guided the Bisons to the win as Logan Van Treeck and Ethan Smith combined for 15 strikeouts and one earned run allowed.
A bases-loaded walk scored Lipscomb's first run in the top of the first inning. Caleb Ketchup extended the Bisons' lead on a single up the middle to score David Coppedge in the second inning.
Ketchup notched his second RBI of the game in the third inning to add to their lead. Their bats were less affected in the middle innings, but Logan Van Treeck and Ethan Smith allowed Lipscomb to keep their lead comfortably, shutting down the Lion's offense.
In eight innings pitched, Logan Van Treeck shut down the Lions' order, finishing with a season-high 12 strikeouts, just three hits allowed, and no earned runs given up.
Trace Willhoite put the contest out of reach with a grand slam to lef field to give Lipscomb a commanding 7-0 lead. The Lions added their two runs in the bottom of the seventh and on a homer in the bottom of the ninth, but didn't have much success otherwise, as they were held to five hits on the day.
