HOW IT HAPPENED
Coach Forehand's ball club captured their eighth straight ASUN series win with an 8-3 victory in game two over Kennesaw State. Back-to-back three-run innings in the seventh and eighth made the difference in the win.
Kennesaw State put up a three spot in the first inning, with three hits in the frame, more than the Bisons had allowed in the nine innings of game one. Lipscomb also committed two errors making two of those Owl runs unearned.
Lipscomb answered with one run in the bottom half of the first inning on a ground out to first, but with the bases loaded, Caleb Ketchup tagged from third to score.
The Bisons continued to chip away at the Owl's lead with a run in the home half of the third frame. Trace Willhoite record his fifth sacrifice fly of the season to plate Ketchup for the second time.
Saturday starter Braydon Tucker settled in after the Owl's three runs spurt in the first, including retiring seven straight batters directly after.
Hits from Alex Vergara and David Coppedge in the sixth and a walk loaded the bases, but the Bisons could not plate any runs. The moment of that inning at that plate carried over to their next at-bats and eventually they plated two to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh.
Vergara was struck by a pitch to start the inning. After a strikeout, Willhoite singled to left center but the throw from center fielder was not in time as Vergara rounded home to tie the game. Austin Kelly then singled back up the middle giving the Bisons a 4-3 lead as Willhoite was able to touch home plate.
The inning continued with a walk from Jake Berg, then Parks Bouck drove in the third run of the period on a double over the third basemen for a 5-3 edge.
Matthew Bohnert and Hayden Frank each got an inning of work on the mound and allowed two hits combined with two strikeouts to close things out.
Lipscomb added insurance in the eight on a bases loaded situation in the bottom with no outs, and Willhoite delivered for the second time on the day with a two-RBI single. Berg connected on a well-executed bunt that Kennesaw State's pitch couldn't field, which put the Bisons' eight run on the board
Braydon Tucker earned the win in game two, improving his overall record on the bumb to 5-0. Tucker finished his seven innings with five hits allowed; just one earned run, and eight strikeouts.
Vergara and Willhoite came up big for the Bisons at the plate, going a combined 6-of-8 with four RBI. Lipscomb out hit the Owls 11-7 and held the Owls scoreless after the first inning.
