HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb walked it off against Kennesaw State on Sunday to secure their second sweep of the year and maintain a tie for first place in the ASUN.
Kennesaw State started game three similar to how they started in game two with a two spot in the first inning on a two-run homer. Lipscomb answered as they did in Saturday's win, scoring a run in the bottom half.
Alex Vergara reached on a throwing error and advanced to second on the throw. Mason Lundgrin found the gap in left-center to round Vergara home to chop the Owl's two-run lead in half.
The Bisons evened the score at two runs each on a solo homer by Austin Kelly, his 16th of the year. They then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on a wild pitch by the Owls, bringing Alex Vergara home.
After two scoreless innings on both sides in the sixth and seventh, Kennesaw State got back the run on a wild pitch in the eighth. Lipscomb was not able to score in the bottom half but walked it off in the ninth to secure the sweep.
Will Lee singled to left center to open the frame. Caleb Ketchup followed a foul out with a single to left field. Then, with two outs, Mason Lundgrin singled to second base, and Kyle Hetherington slid home, beating the tag on a throw from first to home.
The sweep marks just their second of the season, with the first coming against North Alabama in early April, and their 18th conference win.
Lipscomb outhit the Owls 10-5 in game three and 26-14 in the series overall. Lipscomb also held a solid-hitting Kennesaw State ball club to just seven runs, a .247 batting average and a .210 on base percentage.
Hayden Frank recorded the win after pitching one effective inning in the top of the ninth in a tie game. With the victory, Frank improved to 3-1 on the year.
