Women’s Soccer Takes Tough Loss Against Troy in Season Opener

Box Score Final Score: Troy 1, Lipscomb 0
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Lipscomb Soccer Complex)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb women's soccer opened their season with a home match against the Troy Trojans with a tough contest that saw the Trojans emerge victorious after a messy attempt to clear a corner kick resulted in a goal for the visitors.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bisons came out swinging in the match as graduate student Kelli Beiler drove home the first shot of the match just under 10 seconds into the action. Although her shot found the back of the net, the goal was called off due to the Bisons being offside.

Beiler kept an aggressive pace for the Bisons' offense, logging five shots over her 82 minutes on the pitch – the highest shot count among all players from both teams. Shelby Craft and Alivia Carapazza brought the heat from the midfield as they combined for three shots during the 90 minutes the duo spent on the field.

Sophomore netminder Sara Kile made her first appearance for the Purple and Gold between the pipes and she stood tall through the first 45 minutes of action with three saves in the first half.

A little over 62 minutes into play, the Trojans took a strong corner kick that was chipped up and ricocheted off a Lipscomb defender in the box to the back of the net to give the visitors the lead with just under 30 minutes left on the clock.

Kile collected her fourth save of the night shortly after the Trojans took the lead, and she held the line strong for the Bisons for the remainder of the match.

QUICK FACTS
  • The Bisons out-shot the Trojans 12-11 in the contest, led by Beiler's five shots.
  • The two squads were tightly matched with both teams logging seven shots in the first half.
  • Troy's offense battled hard around the end line, earning three corner kicks to the Bisons' two in the contest.
